Open for Submissions: 2017 Neil Shepard Prizes in Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction!

SUBMIT NOW for Green Mountains Review‘s 2017 Neil Shepard Prizes in Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction! This year’s contest will be judged by Camille Dungy (Poetry), Glen Pourciau (Fiction), and Abigail Thomas (Creative Nonfiction).

GUIDELINES: Send up to three poems, or one short story of any length, or one creative essay of any length, accompanied by a $15 reading fee, via Submittable. First Prize winners in each genre will receive $500 and publication. All entrants will receive a free copy of the 2017 print issue in which the prize-winning works will be published, and all submissions will be considered for publication.

Meet the Judges . . .

FINAL JUDGE, CREATIVE NONFICTION: Abigail Thomas is the daughter of renowned science writer Lewis Thomas (The Lives of a Cell), is the mother of four children and the grandmother of twelve. She is the author of most recently What Comes Next and How to Like It and six previous books, including the memoir A Three Dog Life, which was named one of the best books of 2006 by the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. She teaches writing and lives in Woodstock.

FINAL JUDGE, FICTION: Glen Pourciau is the author of the story collections View and Invite, which won the 2008 Iowa Short Fiction Award. His stories have been published by AGNI Online, Antioch Review, Epoch, New England Review, New Ohio Review, Paris Review, and other magazines

 

FINAL JUDGE, POETRY: Camille T. Dungy is the author of four collections of poetry, most recently Trophic Cascade, and the essay collection Guidebook to Relative Strangers. She has also edited anthologies including Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry. Her poems have appeared in Best American Poetry, 100 Best African American Poems, and many other print and online venues. She is a professor at Colorado State University.
